Does anything really need to be said about this book?? Well, I am gonna say something anyway!
This is a genre-changing epic fantasy with amazing characters, with worldwide impact the like of which has not been seen since Harry Potter. I first came to the series after watching the HBO series. I saw the first season and just had to read the books. And wow! The books are sooo much better.
George RR Martin has an afinity with characters. That’s where the strength of this series lies. He tells the story for a series of different characters. Bran, Jon, Eddard, Sansa, Arya, Tyrion, Cat, Dany. Each character has a different voice, each a different perspective and aims. It’s amazing the way he can go from writing Arya to Sansa, or Jon to Cat. Characters with opposing viewpoints of the same things, and yet both viewpoints are valid and understandable.
I would have to say though that my favorite character is Tyrion. The sarcastic, pervy dwarf. He is just so well done. Initially I wasn’t sure of him, but as the story went on I just fell in love with his character.
I won’t talk about the plot, I’ll just say again. This book, and indeed this series is amazing! If you haven’t read it you must!!
